Beverly Ann Pierce – Pre K – Older 4s
I grew up in suburban Philadelphia where I attended Bucks County Community College. I transferred to Michigan State University. I earned a BS degree from the College of Human Ecology, majoring in Human Environment and Design. Classes in Child Development, Family Studies, Psychology, Nutrition, and Interior Design were required courses. I completed the course work for Senior Staff Certification at Carroll County Community College.

I have worked in a variety of childcare settings. I worked at the Michigan State University Laboratory Preschool as a lab for classes. While my daughter was young I did in home day care. I worked in exchange for tuition at a Parent Cooperative Preschool. I was a substitute assistant teacher at a large Child Development Center in the toddler, preschool, and kindergarten rooms. Before moving to Maryland, I was employed at the Okemos Montessori School in Okemos, Michigan for 5 years. While there, I worked as a preschool assistant for 4 years. Then, I worked in the elementary and toddler rooms the last year to decide which age level I preferred because I considered taking the rigorous Montessori Teaching course.

I have been employed at Rhymes and Reasons for 9 years. I completed the Maryland Model for School Readiness Training, and have used it in my classroom for two years. The work sampling system helps teachers gather data about each child.

I love learning and usually take more classes than we are required to have in order to maintain certification. I love nature and try to excite the children about our world. I have traveled and lived in Europe and help the children to learn about other places. Art and crafts are my passion and are used to learn in my classroom.

I have had many volunteer positions in the community thanks to my daughters’’ activities. I have volunteered in schools, theater programs, Girl Scouts, and 4-H clubs. I often mentor students from High School who are doing Child Development Internships.
