Meet Our Staff

Gail Aznar - Director - Graduate Utah State University
Married to Juan Aznar, who is also a Utah State University Graduate. I have three sons, two of whom graduated from college this year. My oldest Juan is teaching at Laytonsville Elementary as a P.E. teacher. My second son Paul is also a graduate of Utah State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Jacob my youngest is a freshman at South Carroll High School.

I enjoy walking, bicycling, skiing, dancing, reading and playing piano. I have a passion for children and I believe it is important for children to learn a healthy lifestyle which includes eating nutritious foods, exercise and rest. Character education is extremely important to me, teaching children to be honest, trustworthy, responsible and to have self respect.

Paula Schwab -– School Age Children

I am married to Brad Schwab and we have lived in Eldersburg since 1973. We have 2 grown children, Merredith and BJ. Our daughter recently received her MBA from Middle Tennessee State University and is married and living in Nashville, TN. Our son just graduated from Frostburg State University with a degree in Business. He lives in Cumberland, Md.

I have a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Towson University, and have taught Kindergarten for Baltimore County Schools for 39 years. I enjoy quilting, cross stitch, reading, crafting, and exercising. I like working with young children and seeing the world through their eyes! I love to teach using a multi-disiplinary approach incorporating music, dance, drama, art, poetry, and creative writing. My favorite essay about teaching is by Robert Fulghum, "ALL I EVER REALLY NEEDED TO KNOW I LEARNED IN KINDERGARTEN!" I want my young students to come to school every day and be excited about learning something new! I am very happy to be at RHYMES AND REASONS, as this center embodies the BEST in Early Childhood Education practices!

Beverly Ann Pierce – Pre K – Older 4s
I grew up in suburban Philadelphia where I attended Bucks County Community College. I transferred to Michigan State University. I earned a BS degree from the College of Human Ecology, majoring in Human Environment and Design. Classes in Child Development, Family Studies, Psychology, Nutrition, and Interior Design were required courses. I completed the course work for Senior Staff Certification at Carroll County Community College.

I have worked in a variety of childcare settings. I worked at the Michigan State University Laboratory Preschool as a lab for classes. While my daughter was young I did in home day care. I worked in exchange for tuition at a Parent Cooperative Preschool. I was a substitute assistant teacher at a large Child Development Center in the toddler, preschool, and kindergarten rooms. Before moving to Maryland, I was employed at the Okemos Montessori School in Okemos, Michigan for 5 years. While there, I worked as a preschool assistant for 4 years. Then, I worked in the elementary and toddler rooms the last year to decide which age level I preferred because I considered taking the rigorous Montessori Teaching course.

I have been employed at Rhymes and Reasons for 9 years. I completed the Maryland Model for School Readiness Training, and have used it in my classroom for two years. The work sampling system helps teachers gather data about each child.

I love learning and usually take more classes than we are required to have in order to maintain certification. I love nature and try to excite the children about our world. I have traveled and lived in Europe and help the children to learn about other places. Art and crafts are my passion and are used to learn in my classroom.

I have had many volunteer positions in the community thanks to my daughters’’ activities. I have volunteered in schools, theater programs, Girl Scouts, and 4-H clubs. I often mentor students from High School who are doing Child Development Internships.
